Weary

We all get weary at times. Weary of disgusting politics. Discouraged with health problems. Overwhelmed with weakened bodies and minds. Concerned about family problems. Tired of working hard without seeing much fruit.

If you are in that condition, I have great news! You may already know all of these verses, but we all need a little reminder once in a while, don’t we?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, NIV).

“I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint”  (Jeremiah 31:25, NIV).

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9, NIV).

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:30-31, NIV).

“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted” (Hebrews 12:1b-3, ESV).

The underlining is mine, just so you couldn’t miss the key word for today. Isn’t it refreshing to let the Word of God strengthen us? What do people do without that resource? Maybe you could pass on these encouraging words to someone today?

Here’s one of those passages set to music by Ken Medema. He and I recorded it when we were in our prime, so to speak. It makes me sad that I can’t sing like that anymore, but I’m thankful that the music can still bless people’s hearts. Isn’t technology great when it’s working right?
