Unexplainable

There are some things that just can’t be explained. My husband isn’t well, and asked this morning, “Why is all this happening to me?” The only answer I had was that lots of things happen in life that we can’t explain.

Job had lots of reasons to ask lots of questions. He suffered greatly, but stayed true to God, who knew the reason for the suffering but chose not to reveal it to Job. Some of the penetrating questions Job asked were: “Should we accept only good from God and not adversity?” (Job 2:10); “Why was I not stillborn; why didn’t I die as I came from the womb?” (Job 3:11); “For what portion would I have from God above, or what inheritance from the Almighty on high? Doesn’t disaster come to the unjust and misfortune to evildoers? Does He not see my ways and number all my steps?” (Job 31:2-4).

The Psalmist also asked a lot of questions. “LORD, who is like You…?” (Psalm 35:10); “Did I purify my heart and wash my hands in innocence for nothing?” (Psalm 73:13); “Will You prolong Your anger for all generations? Will You not revive us again so that Your people may rejoice in You?” (Psalm 85:6); “Who stands up for me against the wicked? Who takes a stand for me against evildoers?” (Psalm 94:16); “Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me?” (Psalm 42:5). (All verses above from Holman Christian Standard Bible.)

God doesn’t always explain things to us. He doesn’t have to. Apparently it’s not necessary from His viewpoint. And sometimes there are no earthly words to explain heavenly things. Jesus used a lot of object lessons from nature to help people understand what He was trying to teach them. But He knew that human minds don’t understand the spiritual very well. Isn’t it great that He sent the Holy Spirit to enlighten our minds and hearts? At least we have a little insight into what’s coming.

I love this verse: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (I Corinthians 2:9, NKJV). That means He has so many extravagant things in store for us that we can not begin to imagine how wonderful they will be. They are unexplainable to us. Pretty exciting, right?

Here’s an oldie from one of our family albums back in the 70s. We look backward and forward at the same time. Are you looking forward to an indescribable home beyond this world?
