When you’re 77 years old, it’s easier to look back rather than forward. You’ve accumulated…
Pulse
“If you have a pulse, God has a purpose.” That’s what Pastor Steve said to our group of seniors yesterday at our luncheon. That’s not just a pithy phrase. Not just a catchy alliteration. It’s a profound fact! It set me to thinking.
Sometimes we flounder and aren’t sure of our purpose. It takes time and soul searching to get to the core of the matter. The Lord has designed us and preserved us for His purpose. Sure, we know what that overall purpose is: to glorify God. But I believe each of us has a specific and unique purpose. One that no one else can fulfill.
For instance, I have distinct relationships with people that only I can realize. Some of these connections come by birth. Some by choice. What do I do with them? How do I honor God’s plan by ministering to those in my sphere of influence? I can pray for them. I can have private conversations with them. I can write letters to them. (That often works better for me than talking.) I can serve them cheerfully. I can model for them what it means to let Christ live through me. Who knows? Someone else on the periphery might be watching that I’m not even aware of.
And what about gifts? It seems that some are gifted more than others; but everyone has some gifting. And my version of “significance” may be different from God’s. Who would have thought that a little boy’s lunch could be used to feed over 5,000 people? But that’s the surprise Christ offers to those who willingly give what they have. There’s an old song that says: “Little is much when God is in it.” I certainly “Amen” that!
Have you checked your pulse lately? It’s a reminder that God has you here for a reason. I’m going to spend this day pursuing my reason. How about you?
