A Hiding Place

Remember when we were kids and played the game Hide and Seek? It was always a challenge to see who could find the best hiding place.

Now that you are grown up, do you ever wish you could run away and find a place to hide from all of your troubles? Well, I’m glad to tell you that there is such a place. Not that trouble will never touch you, but when we run to the Lord, He is our Protector, our Shield, our Comforter.

The psalmist David knew what it was to be plagued by enemies, misfortune, doubt, and devastation. But he also knew where to turn during these difficult times. Check out what he had to say.

“You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance” (Psalm 32:7).

“You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word” (Psalm 119:114).

“For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock” (Psalm 27:5).

“Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings” (Psalm 17:8).

Doesn’t that sound like a safe place to hide? After all, He is God Almighty; and we, weak earthlings that we are, need Him desperately in order to survive. And while we are in that safe hiding place, He restores our bruised and broken souls. That’s what Psalm 23:3 says about the great Shepherd: “He restores my soul.” Other translations use the words “refreshes” and “renews.”

Isn’t that a beautiful picture? Is that what you need today? Quick! Run and hide! It’s OK to let Him shield you from the scorching sun or the flood waters that are overwhelming. Why else would He have made those promises?
