What to Wear Today

This morning I made a decision about what to wear today. I do that every day. Don’t you? Fortunately I have a walk-in closet to contain the large variety of clothes in my wardrobe. What did we do back in the olden days when closets were small? I guess we didn’t have as many articles of clothing. But we had what we needed – clothes to cover our physical bodies for any occasion.

Did you know there are also clothes for our spirits? Check out these examples.

Isaiah 61:10 – I delight greatly in the Lord;  my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness…

Colossians 3:12 – As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

I Peter 5:5 – Be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

I Peter 3:3 – Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

I think we have a choice as to whether we will don the spiritual garments that please the Lord. Why would we ever choose ugliness in our spirit when the Spirit of God provides beautiful attire? Let’s purge our inner closets of pride, hate, meanness and intolerance. And let’s allow God to dress us in His love, humility, patience, and gentleness. Those clothes are so much more becoming! And they draw attention to the Lord instead of us. So what do you choose to wear today?
