My Thoughts

Probably most people would be shocked if they knew what I was thinking. No one can read my mind. Well, except for one. God, who created our complex brains and knows all things, is aware of every thought. That can be scary or comforting. But either way, it’s mind boggling!

David, the sensitive poet, wrote: “O Lord, You have searched me, and known me. You know my sitting down and rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off.” (Psalm 139:1 & 2); and Matthew records: “Jesus, knowing their thinking, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?” (Matthew 9:4)

How can that be possible? I don’t understand. But there are lots of things about God that I can’t comprehend. That’s where faith comes in. I choose to believe. “The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.” (Isaiah 40: 28)

But beyond the fact that God knows my thoughts is this. He knows all thoughts. He can read all minds. That’s 7.4 billion brains thinking trillions of thoughts each day. Now that’s beyond my imagination! It stretches my thinking. It speaks to my conscience. And it challenges me to pray with the psalmist: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”

What’s on your mind today? Are you glad that God knows?
